Description

Product Characteristics: FUNCTION: Positively regulates a late step in synaptic vesicle exocytosis. Also involved in mast cell exocytosis. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm âÄ° cytosol. Note: Enriched at synaptic-releasing sites in mature neurons. Tissue specificity: Nervous system. In hippocampus and cerebellum, expressed mainly by excitatory neurons. Down-regulated in brain cortex from patients suffering from Huntington disease, bipolar disorder or major depression. Down-regulated in cerebellum from patients with schizophrenia.,Synaptic Vesicle Traffic,CPLX2, Complexin II, CPX II, Synaphin-1, Complexin 2
Target Information: Proteins encoded by the complexin/synaphin gene family are cytosolic proteins that function in synaptic vesicle exocytosis. These proteins bind syntaxin, part of the SNAP receptor. The protein product of this gene binds to the SNAP receptor complex and disrupts it, allowing transmitter release. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
